The Great Wall of China is one of the Seven Wonders of the World
and runs across the Shanhaiguan Pass, Jiayuguan Pass, Hebei,
Shanxi, Liaoning, Inner Mongolia, Beijing, Shaanxi, Ningxia, Gansu
and Tianjin.
Made of packed earth, rocks and masonry, the Great Wall of China
runs over an area of 6,400 kilometers and is 15 to 30 feet thick at
different places.
The driving force behind the construction of the Great Wall of
China was to create a protective fortification against invaders by
the states of Yan, Qin and Zhao.
The Great Wall of China was extended and repaired at different
points of time in history. In fact initially the wall was not a
complete entity and used to stand as separate sections that were
joined to form the "Great Wall of China" during the rule of the
famous Emperor Qin Shihuang. The main reason why the wall was
joined was to protect China from invasions from the Huns.
A battery of prisoners, soldiers and local people put in a lot
of effort towards building the Great Wall of China.
The Great Wall of China is also visible form Space and that
definitely makes it special.
