exotic holiday destination.
History
As far as the history of Tibet is concerned not much is known
about the origin of the Tibetans. Available records indicate that
the Tibetans trace their origin back to certain nomadic tribes. In
the later years the Yarlung kings worked towards the unification of
Tibet. It was during this time that Buddhism spread its roots in
Tibet.
The Gelugpa lamas became a force to reckon with during the 15th
century. In fact the third lama was given the title of "Dalai" that
signifies "an ocean of wisdom." The Dalai Lama became an important
factor in the regional politics of Tibet. The United States
Government appointed a 'Special Coordinator for Tibet' in the year
1997.
