Located in the southeast of the country, Anhui is the inland
province of China. Also called Wan, Anhui is surrounded by six
provinces Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Jiangxi, Hubei, Henan and Shandong.
Two rivers Yangtze and Huai flow through Anhui and divide the
province into three parts viz. Huaibei, Jianghuai and Jiangnan. The
province covers an area of 139,600 square kilometres and has a
population of about 59 million. Hefei is the capital of Anhui
province.
Anhui is a major supplier of coal to southern China.
Petrochemical, metal making, papermaking, mechanical engineering
and food processing are the main industries in Anhui. Railway is
the main medium of transportation, however, people also travel by
roads and waterways.
Places to See
Hefei: The capital of Anhui province is an important
tourist attraction in the province. Set against the lush mountains,
Hefi offers a number of tourist attractions. Some of the major
attractions in Hefei include the battlefield at Xiaoyaojin, temple
and tomb of Bao Zheng, Xinghua (Apricot Flower) Park, Chaohu
Amusement Park and Jiaonu Terrace.
Huangshan: Located in the south of the province,
Huangshan is a major tourist city, which is popular for its rich
culture and majestic mountains. Important tourist attractions are
Mount Huangshan, Mount Qiyun, Shexian, Xin'an River and Taiping
Lake.
