Location
Suzhou is located on the banks of the Taihu Lake in the middle

History
Suzhou was known as 'Gusu City' in the olden days and was
established in the year 514 B.C. The Chinese believe that He Lu,
who was the founder of the Wu Kingdom, established Suzhou. Suzhou
gained importance as an important commercial center after the
completion of the Grand Canal. Suzhou gained popularity as an
important center of silk manufacture under the reign of the Ming
dynasty. According to historical records there were 200 gardens in
Suzhou in the ancient times.
