Location

History

In the olden days Dunhuang was known as Shazhou or sandbank. Dunhuang became a prefecture in the year 117 B.C. Dunhuang played an important role in Chinese history during the reign of the Han and Tang rulers. Dunhuang was an important center on the Silk Road trade route.

Tourist Attractions

Visit the Mogao caves located close to Dunhuang, China and step into a fascinating world of Buddhist paintings and sculptures. There are about 492 caves that are a storehouse of artistic sculptures and colorful frescoes. Some of the caves are wooden structured.
